it lacks lyricism

It's like this: they take off the feathered masks, the piggie noses, the bandanas, the hats, and we're all laughing. For that one moment, we see each other. Hold their hands out to take me in, but I'm already walking back, with excited eyes and then I'm gone. They're left at the door, and I'm myself half, not all powdered white. But she's taking over, and I'm glad to be leaving them at the steps. It only took them four years, but I've been leaving this whole time.

and I'm happy.
